What our customers say about us
Here are just a few of the kind words our past and present customers have had to say about our work and the service that we provide.
“Following a broad review of possible candidates to assist me with translating the look and feel I invisaged for window furnishings in my Georgian-style country home, I was recommended to contact Beth Barker Designs.
From our very first meeting, I felt totally at ease sharing my thoughts and ideas with Beth, who is warm, patient, open and intuitive.
After carefully listening to gain a good understanding of the project, she swung into action and brought together fabrics and materials for blinds and curtains throughout the house.
In addition to Beth's wealth of experience and knowledge, she has a meticulous attention to detail, and enlists an excellent and dedicated team who match up to her exacting standards for the best quality of work, clear communication and organisation.
Based on my very positive experiences with Beth and her team, I can wholeheartedly recommend Beth Barker Designs.”

“What an incredible service offered by a stellar and talented designer—she changed not just my living space but my inner life too, by transforming my imposing and oppressive space into a calm and tranquil room that allowed me to relax, contemplate and gather my thoughts. I would never have been able to do this on my own, but Beth intuitively knew what I needed, and the colours and designs needed to achieve that.”

“We have worked with Beth Barker on a number of projects over the past 10 years in our last two houses. Both of these were large refurbishments projects on Grade II listed properties, requiring sensitivity for the listing restrictions as much as our own desire to end up with a home that didn't look out of keeping with the style and character of the property.
We didn't want a modern makeover, but also we didn't want it pretending to be a style from the past that its not today. We wanted both projects to be sensitively restored rather than having had a makeover, but yet still wanted it to appropriate for modern day living with two young children.
We have loved all the rooms she has worked on in both our houses, but particularly for me the children both adore their rooms. Our daughter loves her stylish and sophisticated bedroom with subtle colours and a mixture of reclaimed and hand made furniture designed to cope with the sloping floor inherent in a 600 year old house. It suits her now when as an 8 year old it can feel like a bedroom fit for a princess, yet is designed in such a way that it will grow with her as her tastes change.
For my son, he has a vibrant and exciting room fit for a 10 year old who loves his computer games- exciting colours and more modern furniture but done to work perfectly with the old beams and character features of this attic bedroom and a study that he enjoys inviting his friends over for sleepovers.
For me, Beths work on our new kitchen is again the perfect mix of a large modern working kitchen with a sensitivity for the style of house it's in. The overall style guide on this house for us has been honesty quality materials, not pretending to be an age they are not, working with the complexity and style of an old building, rather than trying to hide it. But also not becoming a pastiche of a bygone age.
In addition to the design element, Beth has also project managed a number of large projects for us including the most recent work in our current house over the last year. Big refurbishments are complex, time consuming and stressful, but we have always found it immensely reassuring to know Beth was managing it with precision and detail, in partnership with a great network of suppliers and trades who she will keep on their toes, keeping them to time and to budget.
Beth is a perfectionist finished result, works with trades that know this about her, and she makes sure nothing is finished until it is spot on.”

“My jewellery shop was in real need of a refurbishment but I realised a lick of paint wasn't going to do the job. I contacted Beth for some professional help and was blown away by her insight, knowledge and design ideas.
Her ability to see the shop from a clients viewpoint highlighted the areas that needed to become focal points as well as those that needed to be hidden or disguised.
Her talent goes far beyond interior design, incorporating architectural design, in depth structural, plumbing and electrical knowledge along with a very strong connection with the psychological aspect of design. Most importantly, Beth was a delight to work with being both highly professional, extremely friendly and it was so refreshing to meet a designer who is totally able to think outside the box.
I would totally recommend Beth Barker Designs to design and project manage any project.”

“Millers Ley is an 18th century Grade II listed property with early 19th century additions and was in very poor state when I acquired the property. Consequently, this involved a substantial, back to skeleton renovation to the highest sustainability standardise line with SPAB accepted proceduresand material application. I engaged Beth Barker to design and project manage both the interior and exterior at Millers Ley.Given the volume of structural renovation and refurbishment that had been undertaken, it was critical that we took care in providing an internal environment that reflects the building's history, provided optimum comfort for modern day living and importantly avoided unnecessary period pastiche.
Beth provided invaluable advise and guidance . She took time to understand how I wanted to live and work in the property then skilfully crafted a comprehensive programme for the entire property.Beth was instrumental in the design across the whole property, inside and outside. Her attention to detail is second to none and the copious research undertaken across the spectrum of finish, materials, furniture and accessories that begs to be adored. Her management of the project and various contractors has me wishing I had engaged her far earlier in the renovation process ,where she would have undoubtedly contractor performance and budget compliance.Beths knowledge in working with buildings of this nature is beyond measure and has allowed this, now, beautiful house to breathe proudly once again. Of considerable value was her depth of experience in construction and finish. and it is no false statement to say that had I proceeded without her, the overall impact of the house would have been a pale shadow of the home I now have pleasure in living in.”
